Retrofit for Residents

Smarter, warmer living starts here

We're excited to start the journey with you.

We’re looking forward to helping make your home warmer, healthier, and more energy efficient. Retrofit can seem a little overwhelming at first, which is why we’re here to make the process clear, straightforward, and stress-free.

If your home has been selected for a survey, this page explains exactly what to expect – so you’ll know what’s happening, when, and why. Domna will manage the process from end-to-end, so it’s our job to ensure you feel informed, comfortable, and confident at every stage.

What is a Retrofit Assessment?

A retrofit assessment is a type of survey which assesses the energy efficiency of your home. We’ll look at the home’s condition, where you’re losing heat, how the heating system could be improved, and if there are any ventilation issues.

We then put together a comprehensive assessment report, with quick wins you can do immediately, and longer-term works to consider. This includes estimated timelines, costs, energy bill savings, and CO2 emissions reduction.

What is a Retrofit Assessment?

How do I book a survey?

Good news – you don’t have to wait at home all day! We work with you to schedule a precise time for your assessment using our online booking system. The survey will take about 30 minutes to complete.

Do I need to provide any information?

We may require a phone call with you to gather insights on how you use your home – including how many people live with you, how warm you like to keep it, how many hours per day you are using the heating etc.

What Does the Survey Involve?

Our surveys are quick, respectful, and handled by pros. There’s no need to move furniture or prepare anything in advance – we’ve got it covered.

Internal Checks

  • We’ll take photos and measurements to confirm the layout, materials, and condition of your home.
  • Key services (gas, water, fuse box) will be located and checked.
  • The surveyor will inspect ventilation, heating systems, loft (if accessible), and overall property size.
  • We’ll assess extractor fans, window openings, door undercuts, and check for damp or mould.
  • A humidity test may be done if needed – better insulation means ventilation matters more than ever.

External Checks

  • We’ll inspect the exterior of your home – walls, roof, and windows.
  • In some cases, a small hole may be made in the mortar to check cavity conditions but will be resealed immediately.

Our Surveyors

All Domna representatives:

  • Carry official Domna ID badges.
  • Will show a letter of authorisation from your council or housing provider.
  • Are trained to work respectfully and non-intrusively.

You can contact us anytime to confirm a visit or raise concerns.

What happens next?

We’ll produce a detailed report, with costed options for energy efficiency improvements, estimated energy savings, and CO2 emission reductions. Based on the works your landlord decides to go ahead with, we will then work with you to plan the installation.
